JUSTHUMAN
Transgender and non-binary (people who do not fit within the gender binary) individuals have been engaged in a culture war over our right to live. Justhuman informs cisgender people (people whose gender identity matches their gender assigned at birth) about trans people. It also serves as a hub for other trans people to share their experiences.
Installation to let people know trans folk have a right to use the restroom they identify with.
Interview with James (he/him) and his experience as a trans man.
Social campaign to let people know what their preferred pronouns are. These posters were sent out to people to fill out their preferred pronouns, and were featured on Justhuman's Instagram.
To make a point on how absurd it was to find a gender neutral restroom, I took a walk in various locations around Los Angeles and Pasadena, only to find little gender-neutral restrooms across the way. Many were out of reach from the path I took. In 2017, California enacted a law to change single-stall restrooms to gender-neutral restrooms, making it easier for transgender people to choose bathrooms with less fear.
